Prices for Girl Scout cookies have increased this year, but not in Alabama.

For the 2024 season, many boxes of Girl Scout cookies around the country will cost $6 a piece—increasing from last year’s $5 price tag. But in Alabama, prices are still $5 a box.

Price adjustments for Girl Scout cookies are determined by local councils, offshoots of the national organization that cover specific geographic areas. Each Girl Scout council operates as an independent 501c3 organization and has the power to set its own prices.

According to the two Girl Scout councils in Alabama— the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama and the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama—the prices of the cookies sold by their troops will remain $5.

“As with many industries, rising costs have resulted in Girl Scout councils in some areas facing the tough decision to raise their prices for the upcoming season,” the councils said in a press release. “Under any price increase, troop proceeds will also increase per package. That being said – we would like to reassure Alabamians that they will not be impacted by a price increase this year.”

A number of areas around the country have decided to keep boxes of Girl Scout cookies $5, including southwest Texas and central Florida.

· If you know a registered Girl Scout, reach out to her to find out how she’s selling cookies. If you don’t know a Girl Scout, check with your local council or use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder to find a booth and purchase cookies.

· Beginning Feb. 16, customers who do not already know a Girl Scout will also be able to purchase cookies to be shipped directly to their homes by entering their ZIP code into the Girl Scout Cookie Finder. This link can also be used to find a local booth, purchase cookies, and/or to donate cookies for local community causes.

· Caramel Chocolate Chip: Chewy cookies with rich caramel, semisweet chocolate chips and a hint of sea salt

· Lemonades: Savory, refreshing shortbread cookies topped with a tangy lemon-flavored icing
